VIVAnews - The Governor of West Java Ahmad Heryawan supports the implementation of train development. Therefore, West Java, Jakarta and Banten will establish a special body to conduct the program in an integrated way with Rp 7.2 trillion worth of investment.
"Trains are prioritized in development because they serve as mass transportation,” Heryawan said in Bandung on Friday, January 22. “In working on it, it requires facilities that need integrated planning which involves related parties, especially local governments in West Java, Banten and Jakarta”.
According to him, trains are the answers to goods and human transportation-related issues, especially amid the concerning condition of highways nowadays. Due to the problem, Rp 5.5 trillion of inefficiency is booked every year. Therefore, trains as an alternative mode of transportation are quite promising. Aside from being able to carry more people, they are also efficient and effective.
Establishment and development plans have been designed to make trains in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi) capable of transporting 3 million passengers per day in 2013. If the target is achieved, several advantages will be garnered such as the ability to save 1,700,000 liters of fuel per day which is equal to Rp 7.8 billion per day or Rp 2.8 billion per year. The level of pollution could only be lowered by reducing carbon emission up to 420 tons per day.
Earlier, West Java Governor, together with two other governors from Jakarta and Banten, held a meeting with Vice President Boediono at the Vice President’s Palace. The meeting was specially conducted to discuss about the reactivation and the revitalization of trains in Jabodetabek. The meeting was also attended by the Head of National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the Transportation Minister, The President Director of PT Kereta Api and several transportation experts.
Heryawan said that the meeting emphasized on the trains’ urgent need of establishment and improvement which certainly requires strong commitment from relevant parties, especially the leaders in Jakarta, West Java and Banten.
The plan also requires financial support, regulation simplification, good planning and transparency and accountability principle enforcement. “The amount of investment needed until 2013 is estimated to be Rp 7.2 trillion,” Heryawan said.
