VIVAnews - The Asian Development Bank donated broadband global area network and communication mobile worth US$3 million that can be directly connected to T-com satellite to mitigate disasters in West Sumatra province.
According to ADB representative Renaldi Budiman, the devices are important for mapping the disaster-affected areas.
The ADB also handed over 25 units of motor rescue and 12 units of mobile rescue equipped with GPS. According to the distributor Indotelsat, the devices are integrated to one system.
"Commob will function as the communication hub which is directly linked to the IP Star satellite in Palu," said Anto Pratikno of Indotelsat.
The devices will be used for sending pictures, connecting to the Internet, fax and setting out communications. "Disasters often cut communications. The devices will be the solution because they make use of the fiber optic lines," he said.
According to Head of the National Board for Disaster Mitigation, Syafii Maarif, the devices are important for mitigating disasters.
