VIVAnews - Research In Motion Company has finally made a statement concerning disappointment that the Indonesian government voiced on RIM's decision to build a BlackBerry manufacturing plant in Malaysia. RIM emphasized its commitment toward mutual understanding with the Indonesian government.
"We are enjoying the strong partnership [with the government] as well as extraordinary enthusiasm toward our BlackBerry products," RIM told VIVAnews.
The Canada-based smartphone manufacturer said it has planned to expand its businesses by producing devices in several countries. "We are hoping that an excellent partnership between the government and RIM's operator partners can be set out in the pursuit of a common goal," RIM said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Sept 7, Chief of Capital Investment Coordinating Board, Gita Wirjawan, reacted with dismay over RIM's decision to build a BlackBerry manufacturing plant in Malaysia.
Indonesia has been a huge market for BlackBerry, Gita claimed, as this year alone RIM is targeting to sell 4 million units of BlackBerry at an average price of US$300 per unit. In Malaysia, RIM can only records sales of not more than 400 thousand units.
The government mulls over plan to grant disincentives to multinational companies having considerable market share in the country.
"There's no reason that they do not build factories in Indonesia," Gita said.
