Investment Grows 27 Pct in First Semester

VIVAnews - Indonesia's investment grew 27.2 percent in the fist semester of 2009 comparing to the second semester of 2008.

Head of Capital Investment Coordinating Agency M. Lutfi said that the investment realization for domestic investment (PMDN) and foreign direct investment (PMA) in the first six months of 2009 reached US$7.3 billion.

"The investment grew 27.2 percent in the first semester this year as against the second semester of 2008," he said during a memorandum of understanding signing with the Chamber of Commerce in Jakarta on Monday, July 6.

The investment realization valuing US$7.3 billion includes US$5.3 billion of foreign capital and Rp 1.9 trillion of domestic capital.

"The PMA grew 25.5 percent and the PMDN grew 50 percent," he added.

He further explained that Indonesia's investment growth was considered faster than other countries.

"Indonesia is different from other export-based countries. We're based on commodity and large market," he said.
